The Mission
Backcountry yogapacking to heal the soul, wilderness education, environmental stewardship
Trailbound Yoga’s mission is to empower people—especially from underrepresented groups—by combining the healing power of backpacking, yoga, and wilderness education. Through guided trips, education, and a supportive community, we equip participants with the tools and knowledge to confidently navigate the backcountry, regulate their nervous system, and transform their lives.
More than just a guiding company, we teach self-sufficiency in the wild while supporting personal growth through yoga and meditation. By connecting with nature, we foster a deeper understanding of ourselves, each other, and the environment, promoting both inner healing and environmental stewardship. Together, we’re redefining the trails we walk, both outside and within.
Women Owned & Operated
Trailbound Yoga is a women-owned and operated organization dedicated to breaking down barriers and empowering individuals to explore both the trail and the mat. We foster a safe, inclusive environment where everyone is treated with kindness and respect.
Our primary mission is to help newcomers get outside, offering a supportive space where individuals can learn, grow, and connect in the great outdoors. While many of our trips are open to all, we recognize that the outdoor industry, especially backpacking, has traditionally been male-dominated. With challenges like high costs, specialized gear, limited access to experiential knowledge, and safety concerns, keeping many women from venturing into the wilderness. The added difficulty of finding like-minded friends to join them only deepens these barriers.
At Trailbound, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to connect with nature and discover their inner strength. Our vision is to create inclusive opportunities for individuals of all backgrounds, races, gender, and socioeconomic statuses to explore the outdoors, making nature accessible to all.
Rooted in Education and Stewardship
At Trailbound Yoga, we do more than just guide trips—we provide participants with the skills and knowledge to confidently explore the backcountry on their own. Our flagship programs are structured as an introductory backpacking course, both pre-trip and during the trip, we offer various modules that participants will learn in real-time.
On the trail, we dedicate time to environmental stewardship and land education, learning about the region’s history and ecology. Each trip includes an activity focused on giving back to the land, ensuring we leave it better than we found it. Stewardship is a core value, and we believe responsible outdoor practices are essential for preserving natural resources for future generations. From minimizing ecological impact to promoting Leave No Trace principles, sustainability is central to everything we do. Our mission is to get newcomers outside while equipping them with a strong foundation in outdoor education and Leave No Trace principles—ensuring they can confidently enjoy and protect wild spaces for years to come.
Inclusive Yoga Practice
At Trailbound Yoga, we view yoga as more than just exercise—it’s a holistic practice for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual growth. As Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras state in sutra 1.2, "Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind." We embrace this definition of yoga as the stilling of the mind’s movements through pranayama (breathwork), dhyana (meditation), and asana (postures), enhanced by the transformative power of the wilderness setting.
Yoga isn’t just something you do—it’s how you show up in the world. It’s how you discover joy, purpose, and ways to give back. It’s also how you face the challenges life throws your way. Every retreat we lead weaves in yoga philosophy and real-life opportunities to practice beyond the mat.
No prior yoga experience is required. We invite participants to show up as they are and approach the practice with curiosity. Our yoga practice will be tailored to each individual, with facilitators offering variations and options to suit all levels. Given the active and strenuous nature of our trips, yoga will always be modified to match energy levels and the physical environment, ensuring a balanced and accessible experience for everyone.
Land Acknowledgment
We, Trailbound Yoga, respectfully acknowledge that the land we occupy is unceded territory of the Kumeyaay Nation. We honor these tribes and the land with gratitude.
